Leadership

The People Behind the Program

Harvard Boxing is led by dedicated student-athletes and experienced coaches committed to excellence.

Joe Lake

Joe Lake

Head Coach

Joe Lake has been involved in boxing since he was about nine years old. After competing through the amateur ranks, a debilitating injury ended his fighting career and led him into coaching, a role that has kept him in the boxing gym five to six days a week for much of his life. As a coach, Joe learned and worked alongside respected boxing figures including Johnny Moss, Al Gavin, and Jim Conley. Over the years, he has trained numerous amateur, professional, and world-rated fighters, including Sam Soliman, Dana Rosenblatt, Micky Ward, Willie Gibbs, and Richie LaMontagne, among many others. With nearly six decades in the sport, Joe brings a lifetime of hands-on boxing experience to his role as Head Coach of the Harvard Boxing Club. His knowledge comes from decades spent where boxing is truly learned, in the gym, working with fighters day after day.

Bob Judge

Bob Judge

Coach

Bob Judge began boxing with Joe Lake in 2006 after the two met at a jiu-jitsu gym in Wakefield, Massachusetts. Over the years, Bob and Joe continued training together in both boxing and jiu-jitsu, eventually each earning a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Nearly 20 years later, Bob continues to train as a student of Joe’s while also serving as an assistant coach at the Harvard Boxing Club. He helps Joe work with Harvard students and boxers, sharing the fundamentals and experience he has developed through years of training while continuing to learn and improve himself. For Bob, boxing has always been about being a student of the sport, and that remains true even as he helps coach the next generation at Harvard.
